A foodie

I have a strange relationship with food. I love food but I don’t like to eat. Not avoiding eating in the anorexic sense, just the fact that many foods don’t go down well into my stomach. I know that it is a mental thing but in 30 years I haven’t been able to beat it.

I love food. I like the way it smells, the way it looks on a plate, how it looks in high-definition, the science behind making it all work together and the people who work with and around food. And with all of that, I don’t like food.

I want to like food. I really do. If I loved food, I would no longer be the “lowest common denominator” in any food related discussion in my circle. People would no longer have to base their food decisions on whether or not I would be negatively affected. Stories told about who the pickiest eater of all is would cease before my name became the capstone. I wish I could enjoy food.

There are things “I know” I can’t eat even though I have never even tried them. I have no idea what eggplant tastes like but I’ve seen it and have convinced myself that it won’t make it past my tongue.

Human flying?

There’s no chance I would ever even claim to want to attempt something like this but it is crazy to watch.

Two things of note:
1. I love Vimeo. They do video better than any site out there.

2. I’m sorry for the lack of any communication the last few days. My MBP is at the doctor and I probably should have taken a trip myself. Working off this Dell reminds me constantly why the Mac market grows daily.

One that I missed

I’m usually pretty plugged in on the latest and greatest viral videos of the Interwebs but somehow I missed the following video during its 2008 heyday. I’ve never ridden a Segway but they have always looked like tons of fun. Add the fun factor to the fact that they’re easy enough for monkeys to ride and I think I might just have to ask our local mall cop for a spin.

Upgrade Me

If you’ve got the time, there’s a pretty fantastic thread with recommendations of life upgrades over at Meta Filter. Lots of stuff I can’t afford to buy but it is interesting to see what others place value in. My wife wants a Dyson, as I read through I saw both some for and against. Was hoping for recommendations one way or the other.

It’s especially useful read now that we are in a confirmed recession and layoffs are happening every day. /sarcasm
