A Fashionable Thursday

Since the skin has melted off the majority of the people in the US by now, I figured it time to throw up some things to help you cover up your soon-to-be scarred bodies. A random mix of things I *need to have in my closet by day’s end.

Warby Parker Sunglasses – Thatcher (Greystone)

Surely you know about Warby Parker, but if you don’t here’s a quick low-down: they’re an internet-based eyeglasses manufacturer that does a similar one-for-one deal like Toms shoes with those in third world nations. $95 for a pair of high-class prescription glasses with the added bonus of getting 5 pairs of frames in the mail to try on before ordering and you get to help out another in the process. Win.

Just a couple of months ago though they branched out into the sunglasses market as well. Double win.

Proud Papa

We had the fortune of visiting my grandparents this weekend to help them celebrate their 60th anniversary of marriage. They still dig each other after all these years. Impressive stuff.

While there, we were able to attend church at the congregation that my grandfather has preached at almost every Sunday for the last 40+ years. Another impressive feat. His congregation is as west-Texas rural as you can get. Their membership is doubled every time our family gets together and joins them. Great stuff all around.

The icing on the cake had to be when my uncle Thom invited my son Cohen to come up and lead some singing with him. Unfortunately, like most things, I ruined it for the most part but we were able to get him on video up there singing and swaying to one of his favorite old hymns, Heavenly Sunlight.

Four generations separated our song-leader from our preacher this past Sunday and I can’t imagine anyone more pleased than the big man upstairs. Though I’ll admit I’m a pretty close second…

Final Space Shuttle Launch

I’m not a huge “space” guy but my buddy Scott (not this guy) reminded me that the final space shuttle launch of Atlantis is scheduled to happen this Friday at 11:26am EST.

If all goes well, it will be the final mission for a group that’s done some pretty amazing things in the last 40 years. What I didn’t know was the amount of cuts NASA is about to make going from a team of 6000 down to around 2000 by the end of the month. Find a TV or set your DVR, interesting enough to be able to tell your grandkids you saw the last one.

Creatiplicity Podcast

It was a pleasure to be asked to be a guest on the new Creatiplicity podcast by FusionAds this past week. If you haven’t already, take time to check out the first three episodes to get the gist of what it’s all about. Hosts, Chris and Shawn, do a nice job of making you feel comfortable in a situation where many people aren’t comfortable at all – talking about yourself.

The podcast primarily focuses on the “intersection of simplicity and the creative process,” but we manage to hit on a few other fun topics as well including the Dallas Mavericks, coupons and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

A couple of things I noticed as I listened back through it all:

  • 1. A better microphone is needed on my end if I plan on doing more of these in the future.
  • 2. I don’t feel like I was nervous when doing the interview but the choppiness of my speaking makes me sound so. Thinking now I should carry around a tape recorder in my pocket daily to make sure that isn’t how I sound all of the time.

Thanks to Shawn and Chris for having me along, the bar has been set nice and low now for future guests. I look forward to hearing upcoming episodes and encourage you to throw it to your listening device as well if you’re into that sort of thing.

Dallas Mavericks 2011 Season in Infographic Form

My favorite basketball team just won the NBA Championship. Chartball Posters created an infographic for it. Why wouldn’t I post a link to it?

Crazy amounts of data here. Probably too much to digest easily but pretty cool nonetheless. Get your own for a mere $43. Ok, I’m not spending $43 bucks on it either but maybe in a moment of impulse you’ll decide jump on it.

Note to family: It’s cool, but not ‘hey, he likes it, mark-it-down-for-a-gift-idea-later,’ cool.
